Published on September 2, 2025
The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings deeply mourn the passing of Nobel Laureate Rainer Weiss at the age of 92.
Professor Weiss (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) shared the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics with Barry C. Barish and Kip S. Thorne for their decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves. He pariticipated in the 69th and 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting and was a member of our Foundations Founders' Assembly.
Council and Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings will honour his memory and extend their sympathies to his family.
